Injury hit Heughers beaten
A much changed and injury hit Heughers went down to a powerful Consett 2nd team.
Our healthy looking squad of 20+ on Friday night had dwindled to 18 by kick off with a few of those carrying knocks. While the Heughers battled bravely a combination of injuries accumulated during the game and Consett's firepower was just too much.
Our tries were scored by first Kieran Wright who went over in the corner after a number 8 pick up by Freeman Lane. Billy Lloyd then crashed over following forward pressure. Billy's conversion brought the score to 12-15 at half time but that was as close as we got.
Second half tries were from Billy again and a 55 metre Ste Railton special which at least got us a try bonus point. Billy converted both tries.
There is no shame in losing to a better side and Consett are the only team to have defeated league leaders West Stags. It is just a pity that we suffered a few injuries that restricted our own competitiveness. Nevertheless full credit to our players who battled on and particularly to those who soldiered on through their injuries so we kept 15 on the pitch at all times. Even if they limped about a bit.
Man of the match went to young Patrick Roberts who gave an excellent performance in the back row regularly putting down players much bigger than him and was always visible in attack. Well done Paddy.
And a special mention to 'Hungry Horse' Harry Hay. Debbie Kilby prepared one of her delicious teas which included some rolls with meat balls. These were very filling and most people could only eat one. Harry ate SIX. And the cakes left after a kid's party. Well he he is a growing boy.
Next week we are away to Durham City Saracens
