We are saddened to announce the tragic and sudden passing of Mick Hanley. Mick lost his life on Wednesday, October 30th. He was a well-known and popular figure at Hartlepool Rovers and the wider community.
Mick was a competitive forward who played in all three rows of the pack. His athleticism extended beyond rugby; he was also an accomplished amateur boxer during his youth.
After retiring from playing, Mick dedicated himself to coaching. He successfully led a number of junior teams. Many of the players he coached went on to represent Rovers and Durham County. Maybe his proudest coaching moment was coaching a junior team that included his son, Anthony. He then moved on to coach both the Rovers Senior Men and Rovers Ladies teams.
Outside of rugby, Mick had a deep passion for music. He organised numerous bands and events at the club and was a prominent DJ in the local music scene.
Above all, Mick was a devoted family man. He was a proud husband, dad, and grandad. Our sincere condolences go out to Sandra, Anthony, Shauna, and all of Mick's family and friends during this difficult time
