Heughers prevail in competitive encounter

The Heughers ran out winners in a close encounter of it's own kind against Horden 2s.

The first exchanges were pretty even with both sides testing each out. However the Heughers pack were coming to the fore and their dominance laid the foundations for our first score. One which was the best of the day. First of all the pack drove Horden back some 40 metres before releasing the ball to the backs. Some lovely interplay and handling led to Kieran Wright going over in the corner for an unconverted try. Smashing team play and a corker of a try. We had the chance to extend our lead in the stroke of half time when a penalty drifted just wide.

The Heughers drew further ahead when another 25 metre forward drive from a lineout put us within sight of the away whitewash and try machine Brsd Harrington drove over in his first game since returning to Rovers. 10-0. Horden weren't giving up and got their reward with an unconverted try to make the last few minutes more interesting. There would have been a bit less trepidation amongst the Rovers' faithful but Matty Stevo unluckily had the ball knocked from his grasp in the act of putting the ball down over the line. But we held out for a fine win.

Many thanks to Horden for a really exciting, close and competitive game played in a very good spirit. Best of luck for the rest of the season.

From Rovers' point of view we probably think we deserved the win as we had the forward dominance. Certainly in the set piece as we frequently pushed the Horden pack backwards in the scrum and also from lineouts where we set up driving mauls that made large amounts of ground. Our backs also made metres albeit usually from the Route One option. With the notable exceotion of our well worked first try.

We had two awards to hand out this week. The returning Brad Harrington notched up his habitual try and got man of the match with a dynamic display. Not far behind was Andrew Dring with an influential performance. Thanks to the sponsors The Pizza Guys and Big Bamboo Lounge and Prep for supplying the prizes.
