Rovers travel to Westoe. Heughers home against Peterlee & Horden

Hartlepool Rovers are set to travel to Westoe Rugby Club this Saturday, 19th October, for a 3pm kick-off. This match promises to be an exciting encounter as both teams look to solidify their positions in the league.

Westoe, who were relegated alongside Rovers last season, have had a mixed start to their campaign. Despite suffering a heavy defeat to Durham University last week, they have managed to secure several wins and currently sit mid-table. In contrast, Rovers have been in impressive form, winning 5 out of their first 6 matches, with their only loss coming against the strong Durham University side.

Rovers will see a few changes to the lineup that secured a hard fought victory against Houghton last week:

Billy Lloyd will start at tight head.
Pat O’Callaghan joins the back row, expected to be a key source of line-out ball.
With Rochester sidelined for at least six weeks due to a broken metacarpal, and Dazz Fawcett unavailable, Mike Barnfield will step into the fly-half position. Tom King will take the wing, while speedy Ellis Trimble moves to full back.

On the bench, Ben Fenwick returns to provide front-row cover, and Shane Jeffery is back from injury, adding depth to the squad.

Coach Darren Smith emphasised the challenge of playing at Westoe, stating, “It’s going to be a tough game as it always is. Westoe is a difficult place to go. Although they have been having a rough time of late, they are a big club with some quality players.” He also noted the importance of their big ball carriers to help gain ground and create opportunities for the backs. Smith expressed optimism about the team's training sessions, highlighting the commitment and enthusiasm shown by the players.

In addition to the first team’s match, the Heughers will be at home against Peterlee & Horden, with a kick-off also scheduled for 3pm. Rovers are fortunate to have a strong squad to choose from, with several returning players available for selection.
