Ten Try Treat for Heughers

Ten Try Treat for Heughers

Ian Smith15 Sep - 14:49

Rovers Heughers 64 - 36 Durham City Saracens

Rovers Heughers ran out winners against a game City Saracens side who travelled short and were loaned players.. There were 16 tries scored altogether in an open and entertaining match with Rovers knocking up 10. Of those ten no fewer than 6 were scored by skipper Ste Railton.

Very impressive by Randy with most of his tries coming as a result of his ability to pick a line and evade or break tackles. 6 tries is too many to describe though - but if you have half an hour to spare Randy will be happy to talk you through them all!

Our other scorers were Shane Jeffery who bullocked his way over after a powerful 25 yard run. This was followed by the best try of the game. We were 10 yards away from our line when Shane put in a thunderous tackle and the ball broke free. It was swiftly snaffled up and we moved upfield before releasing Kieran Wright on halfway. Kieran had two or three opponents to beat which he did to cap off a splendid 90 metre move. Dan Arnell had a bit of a shorter distance to run when his sniping break brought his own try. Andrew Stokes' return to rugby after a bad injury break was celebrated when he crashed over the whitewash. And Billy Lloyd converted 7 of the 10 tries and hit the post with another.

Other noteworthy events during the game were:-

- Connor White's drop restarts. Some of the best I have seen!
- Shane getting his own 'hat trick'. One try for Rovers, one yellow card and then he made another try for City when he took a turn playing for them.
- A City player making a good break and only had Dan Arnell in front of him. Having broken through several other would be tacklers he must have fancied his chances against the smallest player on the pitch. Dan smashed the City player to the ground and it took a while for him to recover. Well done Dan but unfortunately he may have fractured his thumb in the act. Get well soon Dan.

One of the most pleasing things about the game was the Sportsmanship on show. City travelled short to get a game on and Rovers were happy to loan players so both sides had a full complement. Special thanks to Josh Wintersgill, Mark Power, Jacob Cairns and Shane Jeffery who turned ar times for City. Also thanks to those players who could not make a full game but still played for whatever time they could. It makes a real difference.

Randy, understandably, got man of the match with his 6 tries. As he could have had 7 though and passed when over the line and spoiled another try he also got dick of the day.
